Does Water Make You Lose Weight?
Seems that most people are not so sure if water help to lose weight; even if they think it does, not sure how to use this information. Here we will try to answer this question and provide you all the information needed about water and weight loss.
We all know how important is water for body’s health and well being. There are a large number of health problems which can be prevented only by drinking the optimal amount of water that our body needs. Water makes up 75% of the body, 90% of the blood, and 85% of the brain. There is no possible way for human metabolism to function optimally if is deprived of this basic component.
But how that exactly is related with weight loss? Is very much connected with metabolism, specifically the fat metabolism.
The organ responsible with converting energy into fat and fat into energy is our liver. Is one of his main job, along with many others vital for our survival: detoxification, breaking down fats, converting glucose and more. Our liver plays an major in body’s metabolism. In optimal conditions, the liver shouldn’t have any problems converting fat storage into energy, or in other words burning the fat away.
But you guessed right, if the fat is keep being accumulated is a sign that your liver is not doing his job. And that’s because he’s quite busy taking over the kidney’s job, detoxification, filtering and eliminating toxins from the body. And correct guess again, to work at their full capacity, the kidneys need water. Plenty of water, actually.
Is a complex mechanism, but putting it simple it goes this way: by drinking enough water you allow your kidneys to do their job, which in turn will allow your liver to properly convert fat into energy. I will not mention here in how many other ways your body will greatly benefit, your skin, your blood, your brain.
More than that, if you want to build muscles instead of fat, again you need a lot of water.
However, if your metabolism is really slow, and this is the case with most overweight people, you can incredibly boost it in a healthy way with the help of enzymes.
So how much is enough water? Minimum 2 liter a day, period. Less than that will force your body to work in “emergency” mode, and actually store as much water as he can in tissues.
Where most people fail and how to develop a good habit of drinking water?
-Thinking that other liquids like beverages, juices, tea, coffee contain water so are counted as water. This common perception is not only wrong but really dangerous to your health. In fact, most of them are dehydrating the body, for example 1 glass of Coke need 7 glasses of water to neutralize the acidity in your blood. If you don’t happens to drink seven glasses of water after each glass of Coke, then your body will retrieve it from your water storage, thus dehydrating you.
-Fearing that they will have to run to the bathroom constantly. Well, this is a normal reaction, and will disappear soon after your body will adjust to the new amount of water intake.
-Water is not tasty! Actually it is the greatest beverage in the world, but we are so addicted to the artificial taste of all kind of modern drinks, that we almost lost the ability to enjoy a sip of clear water. Do not worry, like any other habits, drinking water can be “learned” again, and the more you will drink, the more you will like it. And of course, it also depends on what kind of water you drink…
What kind of water is best?
Mineral/spring water comes first, as it contains natural minerals that your body needs. The options are huge, so is up to you to choose which brand .
Distiled water can be also good, but is voided of any minerals, and by some naturopaths it leaches minerals from the bones and teeth.
On the last place we’ve put tap water, and if you have to drink tap water, then we strongly advice to consider a water filter.
So, to conclude, if you are serious about losing weight, you should start developing a habit of drinking 2 liter of water a day, spread out throughout the day. There’s no way around. For optimal results try 3 liter a day. It will do miracles for you. Also your skin will become glowing and free of impurities.

Drinking a lot of water is one of the first advice a dieter receives, and I’ve been following it religiously ever since I began dieting. Before I used to hate the taste of water and only drank it when I felt desperately thirsty, but now I drink around 4L of water each day, if not more. However, sometimes I feel that I drink TOO much, as in, I feel like more is going in than coming out. Is it possible that my cells are actually retaining more water, thus causing me to gain weight and appear fatter? I’ve heard that most of the weight you lose on a carb diet is water weight from dehydration, therefore, if you hydrate too much and your cells suck in more water, wouldn’t it make sense for you to gain weight? The thing is, I’ve been eating extremely healthily (low fat, low sugar, high fiber) and exercising regularly, but I still am not losing weight and having lots of “bloated days” recently.
Hi, Edene
I think in your case the best thing to do is to add an enzyme supplement to your diet. Is obvious that no matter how healthy you eat, your digestive system need some help here, and enzymes will definitely solve your bloating and digestion problems. I wrote more about this in my post “How to get rid of bloating-updated”, but what you should consider is this:
-digestive enzymes are vital to the process of digestion, breaking down the foods, extracting the vitamins and minerals from them, using those nutrients and properly expelling the waste.
-the modern foods, no matter how healthy they claim to be, are almost completely voided of enzymes because they are heavily processed. Missing the enzymes the food ingested doesn’t break down as it should, but stays in guts and roots. Forget about extracting nutrients, the digestive system doesn’t have the tools to process them. Forget about expelling, those large “truck drivers” bellies are exactly this: tons of rooting foods.
-vitamins and minerals can be extracted ONLY with the help of enzymes
-the best enzymes are from Aspergillus, cultured in whole grain. I think they shouldn’t be difficult to find on health stores or online. Along with it, you can try avoiding as much as you can processed foods (diaries, canned foods, frozen foods, snacks and everything that came in a bag or box , white sugar and of course carbonated drinks.)
I can tell you from my own experience that: until i took enzymes i thought i am a healthy person with a healthy diet, my only sin being black coffee and some chocolate products here and there. Never had a big belly, but there were days when i felt bloated and full out of nothing and felt like s***t. Only when i start taking enzymes i understood what it really means to digest the food i was eating, to feel my body light and full of energy, and to actually feel good eating. Only then i realized what a heavy burden i was putting on my body, and what a release was to live without it.
So my advise is to give it a try, you have nothing to lose. Taking enzymes with every meal will help you digesting the food, taking it on an empty stomach will detox your blood. It will decrease the size of your belly and eventually helping you to lose weight. In fact only then your diet will be effective, and you will feel it. I promise you that after first week you will ask your self how in the world did you lived without it so long.
My best to you,
Rod
